Modeling and Simulation of Buildings

Summer 2017 UROP

I worked with Professor Ulm and graduate student Konstantinos Keremidis. Konstantinos personally guided me through the concept of infusing Molecular Dynamic behavior into Structural Dynamics. Instead of analyzing a structure with beams, columns and stiff slabs, we equated each connection to molecules with 6 degrees of freedom (DOF). I optimized Konstantinos’s program he wrote in MATLAB which built a simple framed structure and applied a horizontal force on every floor. The result modeled the behavior of the floor slabs due to the applied forces.
